Historic result for LADA Sport Lukoil and Hexathron Racing Systems in the eighth round of the FIA World Touring Car Championship 2014. At Termas de Rio Hondo (Argentina) the russian team directed by Victor Shapovalov conquered its first podium with the technical support of Hexathron Racing Systems. The 2012 World Champion Rob Huff did a fantastic performance in Race 2, where he started from the pole position, and he keep the lead until three laps from the end when he had to leave the first position to the local hero Jose Maria Lopez (Citroen), ending in second place. For Huff and LADA this excellent second place counts as a win and it came thanks to the many technical upgrades installed on the three LADA Granta TC1 after the deep analysis carried out by Hexathron Racing Systems in the early part of the season.
Marco Calovolo (Hexathron Racing Systems): “At Termas de Rio Hondo we finally managed to get the many improvements that we had started studying from the first race in Marrakech. These new components and parts allowed us to reduce the weight of the car (about 50 kilograms) and to adopt a new front suspension geometry, that is changed completely the handling. A praise to Rob Huff and the whole LADA Sport Lukoil team for the excellent work done since the beginning of the season: we knew that the 2014 WTCC season would not be easy but now we are collecting the results of this hard work. I’m sorry for James Thompson who was very close to enter in Q2: his race pace was the some of Rob’s and if had the opportunity to start in the front rows we could went on the podium with both cars, but I’m happy that he has finished twice in the Top 10.”
Rob Huff (LADA Sport Lukoil): “It’s really nice to be on the podium again. I am very happy for the team, this is a reward to the incredible work they have put in for months. The car has made excellent progress, it’s a step by step process, but it’s starting to pay off and I want to thank my engineer Joan Servià and the whole team. Making it to the Q2 was essential and of course, we were lucky to start from the pole in Race 2, but still, we have showed good pace and consistency, and I am very happy for the entire team. It’s not a big outfit, but we are hard workers and team spirit is excellent.”
